1. Natural
when we are beset with pressing problems that is too much to bear eg those who is at the verge of business collapse or divorce may carried the problem in their heart and thinking deeply about it. This will breed mental oppression. It can be for a short season, as one come to accept reality, compose oneself, the mental oppression subside.
2. Demonic
There is a kind of mental oppression where the root cause is the operation of demon. One can have this mental oppression so long a time, that one thinks it is normal,as it is so woven into one personal habit. But somehow one feel it is not right, it is alien, it is not from God and this will prompt the desire to pray for deliverance. One will feel the desire to use the name of Jesus to expel it. As one does so, one will feel relieve.
3. Prayer burden
There is possiblity the Lord is giving us a prayer burden. We feel weighted, we feel something is not right. Then it is better for us to quiet ourselves to spend time in prayer.
What is prayer? whenever we spend time in His presence, we are praying. That's why we can pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17) We can devote time focus upon God, in His presence.
Sometimes our intellect is not adequate, we can resort to pray in tongues, because Bible says those who pray in tongues speak mystery by the Spirit. What a blessing! What an enablement !We can pray beyond ourselves as we are empowered by the Spirit.
Another types of prayer in the Spirit is groaning Rom 8:26 As we groan, the Spirit intercede through us. It is different from speaking in tongue: tongue is a spiritual language but groaning is strictly for intercession and pleading in the Spirit. Tongue is a spiritual language that can be used in intercession but it has other function because it is a language. We also may speak tongues of angels , it is not us, but Spirit speaking through us where angels can get the message. Again it shows tongue is a spiritual language. Groaning is intercession of Holy Spirit.
There are different level of intercession
1. using our words to plead, to intercede
2. using tongue to plead , to intercede
3. using groaning to plead , to intercede
All depends on the level of burden one received. If the burden is great, one may feel need to be silence, or to groan with mono-syllable sound.

It is true that saints are sometimes so opposed and troubled, especially under persecution, that they cannot find language suited to their emotions, where words fail them, even praying in the Spirit. The deep thoughts and feelings in their hearts can find expression only in sighs and groans and tears

Quoting from a prophecy
Do not mistake your burdens for depression. There are times when you must come in and you will be weighted down by the things that you carry, but you will come in that you may be lifted up, saith the Lord. Do not stop coming because you are burdened. Come to the House of God and deliver your burden, saith the Lord. I will give you the Samuels that are to come in the future. I will give you the deliverance for the nations. Do not be afraid of your burden
